ASEAN united on East Sea issues

(VOVworld) – The 22nd ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) opened on Thursday within the framework of the 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AMM-49) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The forum discusses pressing regional issues like disputes in the East Sea. Although China has tried to exclude discussing the East Sea at the forum, the subject has dominated both main discussions and sideline meetings. ASEAN countries are united in their stance on current East Sea conflicts.

East Sea issue at AMM-48

ASEAN affirms its central role in the region

(VOVworld)- The 48th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and related meetings will open in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday. This is one of ASEAN’s major annual events of the year. The meeting is of great importance because the ASEAN Community will be established in four months and ASEAN’s major issues in 2015 will be reviewed. ASEAN is strengthening its central role in the region which is facing numerous complications.

Int’l conference: artificial islands’ impacts in East Sea

(VOVworld) – An international conference entitled “The construction of artificial islands in the East Sea and its impacts on peace, security, economics, and trade development in the region” was held in Ho Chi Minh city on July 25. About 200 Vietnamese and foreign legal experts and researchers analyzed regulations of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) relating to the construction of man-made islands in the sea, particularly the East Sea.

UK seeks opportunities in the East

(VOVworld)- UK Prime Minister David Cameron is on a tour of Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam and Singapore. This is the Prime Minister’s first visit outside Europe since he was re-elected in May. The visit aims to boost economic and trade ties between the UK and Southeast Asian countries and seek opportunities for cooperation in counter-terrorism, sea transport and aviation.
