China pursues peaceful development, President Xi says at parade to mark WWII victory

(VOVWORLD) - Heads of state and senior delegations from countries around the world joined China’s Party General Secretary and President Xi Jinping on Wednesday at a grand military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the world’s victory over fascism at Tiananmen Square.

The Chinese leader said history serves as a reminder that mankind’s future is a shared asset. Only by treating one another as equals, living in harmony, and supporting each other can nations ensure their common security, eliminate the root causes of wars, and prevent historical tragedies from happening again, he added.
“The Chinese people firmly stand on the right side of history and the progress of human civilization,” Xi said. He pledged that China will continue on a path of peaceful development and work towards a community with a shared future for mankind.
In the massive military parade, China's People's Liberation Army showcased its vast array of modern weaponry. General Secretary and President Xi presided over the parade, which featured 45 formations and echelons lining up along Chang'an Avenue.
