Visitors flock to Kim Quy Hall at the National Achievements Exhibition to enjoy “Xoan singing,” a distinct art form of Phu Tho province, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. This year, Phu Tho province’s booth is themed “Phu Tho-80 Years of Development and Integration”
Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong, a staff member from the provincial Culture and Cinema Centre, said: “We brought to the exhibition an ancient xoan singing performance. Xoan, also known as the “khuc mon Dinh” (courtyard songs), is usually performed in spring. It is considered the simplest and most ancient form of Vietnamese singing. We use our natural voices and simple lyrics to convey our beliefs in Hung Kings worshiping, and daily life of ancient Vietnamese people.”
One of the spectators said: “It was beautiful, unique, and moving. Through the artists’ singing, I felt a deep appreciation for Phu Tho’s cultural identity.”
