Tu Luong Xam Festival marks 1088th anniversary of Bach Dang victory

(VOVWORLD) - The 2026 Tu Luong Xam Festival is underway at the Tu Luong Xam National Special Monument Complex in Hai Phong city, commemorating the 1,088th anniversary of the historic Bach Dang victory and the 1,082nd anniversary of the death of King Ngo Quyen.

The palanquin procession is a highlight of the traditional Tu Luong Xam Festival.

The complex is dedicated to King Ngo Quyen, the national hero who led the Vietnamese army and people to victory over foreign invaders on the Bach Dang river in 938, ushering in a long era of national independence. Tu Luong Xam was Ngo Quyen's command center during the Vietnamese resistance against the Southern Han army.

This year's festival will continue until Thursday.

“This is the first year the Festival has been held under the new two-tiered local government model. Everything is ready for the opening ceremony on Tuesday,” said Nguyen Khanh Chi, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Committee of Dong Hai ward and deputy chief organizer of the Festival.

The Tu Luong Xam Festival was officially recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2022.
